Even if it one the milder end like Blue Moon (and I know they are not a real craft) neither is 312 Wheat or Summer Shandy from Leine's but at least it is better than butt light and busch light...

A Seattle convenience store taps some of the world’s best beers.
Laugh at its name if you want, but Seattle’s Super Deli Mart taps some of the country’s best brews—think pours from Russian River and Dogfish Head—behind the counter, next to the Slim Jims and cigarettes. Korean owner Min Chung has turned the 7-Eleven model on its head, filling growlers and offering bar stools as if his convenience store were a tavern. He squirrels away up to 150 kegs in the cooler, and geeks just about hyperventilate when he brings out a cult favorite like Pliny the Younger, new locals like Fremont Interurban IPA, and classics like Firestone Walker Parabola or The Lost Abbey Angel’s Share and pours them right next to the Camel display. –Tan Vinh

RED ALES

Now is the time for Red Ales.  One of favorites from long ago was Leine's Red.  It is very accessible for novice craft beer drinkers (the Creamy Dark is much better).  The one Red I would highly recommend is Odell's Red Ale...a great balance of malt and hops.  That is the way I like craft beer, complex but yet not super overpowering on the hop side.  Not that I don't like IPA's--just not all the time.  Another fine red on the left coast is the Double Red from Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene OR...my friend Kristen and her husband Scott may know of this one.  Let us not forget the wonderfully balanced RED RAMBLER at Peace Tree Brewing in Knoxville.  If anyone is interested in going to Knoxville for beer sampling let me know...the weather will not be an issue soon.....Odell Red Ale may be hard to find in Iowa, but if you spot it...BUY IT!  The other red I want to try is Boulevard Irish Ale--it got average reviews on beer
advocate...I would like to buy a six --but not a 12, because I have been underwhelmed mostly by Boulevard...maybe I just have not tried their best ones.  Odell Red Ale a fine spring Red Ale.  From Ft Collins Co.

HEMP HOP RYE

I just had a bottle of O'Fallon Hemp Hop Rye---it was not over hoppy, a nice copper/brown color--with some caramel flavors--likely related to rye.  I should have waited for it to be a little warmer--because my fridge was pretty cold---very interesting brown ale----I look forward to having another....O'Fallon in Missouri also make the 5-day IPA..which is very good.

It would be nice if HHR packed a little more whallop...

Another seasonal beer that you may be able to find is O'Dell Red Ale--not for wienies!  [from Ft. Collins Co.--more famous for Fat Tire at New Belgium---O'Dell pushes the envelope more---but Fat Tire--is a great place to start for newbies] I has a nice bunch of hops and a rich copper color---I cant wait to find some.  I also looking to Leinie's Big Eddy Springs--Imperial Stout--sounds yummy!

Peace Tree Brewing in Knoxville Iowa is unable to keep up with demand for the "Blonde Fatale" beer they make....as soon as it is made, it is gone of the shelves of stores...
FROM PEACE TREE:
Blonde Fatale: This is an unfiltered Belgian Style Blonde Ale.  The beer is blonde in color from the pale malted barley varieties. It is delicately hopped with Styrian Golding and Celeia for medium bitterness and aroma.  Sugars are added for higher attenuation, following the practices of some Belgian brewers. Belgian ale yeast is used to add complex flavor esters. This beer is unfiltered and yeast is left in for additional conditioning. This beer is named Fatale because it is 8.5% alcohol by volume and will catch up with you if you’re not careful...

Beer in BEND OREGON

First off:  I am the world's worst blogger....
Betty and I went to Bend Oregon in early October

and had a great time!  We went to about 9 or 10 breweries.  Some of these were Rogue, Deschutes, 10 Barrel, Bend Brewing and Ninkasi Brewing.

The highlights for me were a Double Red at Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene Or.,

and a Bourbon Cask Ale at 10 Barrel Brewing in Bend Oregon...

The red was amazingly malting with generous hops

--but not overly done.  This was my first

Cask ale.  If you are unaware they

take a used bourbon barrel and age the beer

in the actual used bourbon cask...it was phenomenal!  See the pics wow, what a great trip!
